She pointed out that AI has taken up a significant space in translator education, sometimes pushing aside essential aspects of learning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1005\" data-end=\"1399\">A key takeaway from her talk was the need to strengthen <span data-start=\"1061\" data-end=\"1083\">transversal skills<\/span>, often referred to as &#8220;soft skills.&#8221; These include critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills, all of which are essential for the profession. According to Bowker, instead of assuming that these competencies develop incidentally, they should become a core focus of translator education.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4587\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4587\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uchass.ugr.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/photo_2025-03-19_15-48-49.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"961\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4587\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lynne Bowker during her presentation in the &#8220;Human on Air&#8221; talks.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-start=\"1401\" data-end=\"1697\">Additionally, Bowker highlighted the importance of viewing technology as a support tool in education rather than an end in itself. She stressed the need for students to learn how to evaluate when and how to use AI strategically, promoting a more critical and deliberate approach to these tools.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1699\" data-end=\"2121\">Another significant aspect of her presentation was her reflection on <span data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1796\">intralingual translation<\/span>, which involves adapting texts within the same language\u2014an area that often receives less attention compared to interlingual translation. In this regard, Bowker emphasized the growing relevance of <span data-start=\"1993\" data-end=\"2015\">public translation<\/span> and the use of plain language, particularly in sectors such as government communication and healthcare.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2123\" data-end=\"2431\">She concluded with a call on the translation community to take an active role in educating the public about translation and its challenges in the digital era. She stressed the need for translators to better communicate the value of their work and promote a greater understanding of AI&#8217;s impact on the profession.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2433\" data-end=\"2648\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uchass.ugr.es\/es\/humans-on-air\/\">This conference<\/a> series will continue to explore different perspectives on the role of artificial intelligence, featuring experts from multiple fields, including linguistics, neuroscience, data science, computer science and AI, literature, journalism, and ethics, among
